Encourage Toronto to Stand Up For Sharks Again!
Every year, tens of millions of sharks are killed for their fins. Fishermen often cut the fins off of alive sharks and then throw them back into the water, most often to die.
Two years ago, the Toronto City Council banned shark fins. However, it has been appealed due to technicalities, causing it to be a major trading hub for shark fins. But now, Toronto may have a second chance to introduce a new ban. The chances of that happening will improve if it can be shown that Torontonians have a direct economic stake in ending their city’s shark fin trade.
Every city wants to attract visitors, and humane policies are a big draw for those of us who care about the welfare of animals. If you agree, please let the City’s Licensing and Standards Committee know you'd be more likely to visit Toronto if it were to ban shark fins.
