Stop the South African rhino horn trade!
We are in the midst of a rhino poaching crisis with over 1,000 rhinos poached in South Africa last year.
Despite this, South Africa wants to legalize international trade in rhino horn that would satisfy the demand for rhino horn by farming rhinos. Periodically cutting off their horns can never meet the demand of the millions of potential rhino horn consumers, and could potentially increase demand while giving the poachers a way of laundering their illegal horn onto the market.
Join us in urging South Africa to focus on protecting rhinos through rigorous anti-poaching measures and to support rhino horn demand reduction efforts.

We, the undersigned, urge the government of
South Africa not to pursue a legal international trade in rhino horn, either
through the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna
and Flora (CITES) or through any other process. Instead South Africa should
focus on protecting existing wild rhinos, and supporting campaigns in consumer
markets aimed at reducing demand.
