Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food
Tell Minister MacAulay to release the updated regulations and make sure they include changes that will reduce animal suffering.
Under current Canadian laws, animals can spend up to three consecutive days in transit, crammed into crowded transport trucks, and denied access to food, water, and rest. Canadian standards for transporting animals are amongst the worst in the developed world — so bad that millions of animals arrive at their destination ill, injured or dead.
Minister of Agriculture Lawrence MacAulay finally released draft revisions to Canada’s animal transport regulations last December, but his proposed changes will do little to stop the suffering of hundreds of millions of animals every year. The government has promised to improve animal transport laws for years, but it has stalled on making much-needed updates to the national standards.
It's time for this to change.
