Implement the ban on dog culling in Bangladesh!

Dog culling has been banned in Bangladesh but government authorities continue to cull dogs in an attempt to eradicate rabies. The dogs – many of them community owned and already vaccinated – are caught by untrained dog handlers, who use long iron polls to immobilize the dogs. The dogs are euthanized on the street and suffer long and painful deaths. Their dead bodies are then thrown onto the back of a truck to be destroyed.

Dog culling is not an effective or humane solution. According to the World Health Organization, the only scientific and effective method to eliminate rabies is through mass dog vaccination and sterilization. HSI is calling on the government to implement a nation-wide animal birth control (ABC) and vaccination program to eradicate rabies.

Please write to the Health Minister and Local Government Minister calling for immediate action to implement the ban on dog culling in Bangladesh.
