Urge Indonesia to end the dog and cat meat trades
In Indonesia, every month tens of thousands of dogs and cats are stolen from the streets—and even their homes—to be bludgeoned to death, butchered and sold for meat. This brutality persists despite the national government declaring that dogs are not considered food and pledging action to end the trade.
Even during the pandemic, the trafficking, slaughter and sale of dogs and cats continued to operate business as usual alongside the trade in snakes, bats and other wildlife for human consumption, despite such markets serving as a hub for infectious diseases that are transmitted from animals to people.
Now more than ever, it’s time for the Indonesian government to close these markets, enforce the law and put an end to the dog and cat meat trades.
