Trade in wildlife causes harm or death to countless animals every year. In sheer scale and revenue generated, the illegal wildlife trade ranks among drug and arms trafficking. While not all trade in wild animals or their parts is illegal, both the legal and illegal trade threaten the survival of many species.

Please be a compassionate shopper (including online) and avoid purchasing items or experiences that compromise the welfare of wild animals. This can be in the form of souvenirs like ivory trinkets and exotic leathers, attractions that keep animals captive in inhumane conditions or exotic pets for sale.

The best way to protect wildlife is to keep a watchful eye on their use in tourism, shopping and dining. Realize that many wildlife products for sale involve cruelty and jeopardize the species’ survival.
