Help pass Bill S-5 to stop toxicity tests on animals in Canada!
In 2021, more than 150,000 animals were used in studies for regulatory testing of products in Canada. These animals were (force-)fed, forced to inhale, injected with, or had chemicals applied to their skin, without pain relief, and observed for adverse reactions to these chemicals. As part of the Canadian Government’s efforts to end this testing, language in Bill S-5, the Strengthening Environmental Protection for a Healthier Canada Act would:
1. Require the use of methods or approaches that do not use animals where scientifically justified and practicable;
2. Encourage the timely development and implementation of alternative methods to animal testing;
3. Require the government to publish a plan, within two years detailing steps to achieve these goals.
This bill passed the Senate in June 2022 and is currently under consideration in committee in the House of Commons. Help HSI/Canada to ensure the passing of S-5 with these provisions!
