Ask the government to keep its promise to ban imports of hunting trophies!

Every year, British trophy hunters travel around the world killing animals–including endangered species like rhinos and polar bears–for fun, and shipping their grisly souvenirs back to the UK. In 2019 the government committed to bring in the toughest trophy hunting rules in the world, but now this vital legislation has until the end of October to become law.

Time is running out for the bill to ban imports of hunting trophies, with only weeks left for it to complete all stages needed to become law. Please help by writing to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Lord True, Leader of the House of Lords, urging them to prioritise parliamentary time for all remaining stages as soon as possible.

Dear Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Lord True, Leader of the House of Lords,

It has come to my attention that there has been a concerted effort by a small group of pro-hunting Peers to wreck the Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill at its Committee Stage in the House of Lords. With a very limited number of sitting days until the Parliamentary session ends, it is vital that the Government schedules a second Committee sitting for the Bill to avoid it running out of time to pass this important and widely supported bill.

Trophy hunting has no place in a modern society, with endangered animals being cruelly killed for fun and their parts brought back as trophies by hunters. I am writing to ask that you keep your promise to ban the import of hunting trophies—which the Government committed to do in the Conservatives 2019 manifesto.

Trophy hunters target the world’s most magnificent animals including elephants, lions, rhinos, giraffes and many more. Many of these species are under increasing pressure from threats including loss of habitat, climate change, poaching and the illegal wildlife trade. Yet, despite these dwindling numbers and increasing threats, trophy hunting continues legally in many countries. I find trophy hunting sickening, and I'm part of the overwhelming majority of the British public who support a ban on the import of hunting trophies.

I seek reassurance from you that the government is committed to passing the bill without further delay.

I hope you will represent my views and ensure the ban is prioritised, as promised to voters, supporting it to pass through House of Lords swiftly, so that we can end UK involvement in this grotesque industry.
