Major milestone toward a Fur-Free Britain!

In a major milestone for our FurFreeBritain campaign, Ruth Jones MP has launched a bill to ban fur imports and sales.

We need to show the new Labour government the strength of public support for a Fur-Free Britain, and ensure the bill has the best chance of success.

A ban on fur imports and sales will help save the lives of millions of animals bred and brutally killed for frivolous fur fashion. Please help us end this cruel and unnecessary trade now!

Dear Secretary of State, 

Animal welfare issues are very important to me, and I am delighted that your colleague Ruth Jones MP is introducing a bill to ban fur imports and sales.   

Fur is cruel and totally unnecessary, and there is no such thing as ‘humane fur’. A ban on imports and sales will help prevent millions of animals overseas from being kept in tiny wire cages for their whole lives before being brutally killed. I am horrified that according to leading virologists, fur farms are also a ticking time-bomb for pandemic disease risk, all to produce a frivolous fashion item. 

I’m writing to ask you and your department to support this important bill and in doing so end the double standard that allows cruel fur products to be imported from overseas and sold, even though we don’t allow fur farming in the UK. 

In 2000 the then Labour government took the compassionate decision to ban fur farming, your party should be rightly proud of that. Now you have the opportunity to show the same leadership on this important animal welfare issue. Please end the double standard to end the cruelty.
