End trade in giraffe products: Protect giraffes under the Endangered Species Act

Giraffes, elephants and other iconic African species are facing extinction, having suffered massive population declines in recent years. Despite this, trophy hunters still target these magnificent animals for bragging rights and to hang their kills on their walls. But few are aware that trophies and taxidermy are often ultimately sold at auction.

A recent undercover investigation by Humane Society International and the Humane Society of the United States revealed that hunting trophies and taxidermy of giraffes, elephants, hippos and countless other species are sold off at a massive auction in the U.S. This auction included grotesque home décor items like elephant foot coffee tables, tables and lamps made from giraffe legs, giraffe taxidermy including a baby giraffe and bones that were marketed as “perfect for crafts.”

We can stop the thriving trade in giraffes by listing them as Endangered, thereby restricting trade in giraffes going to the United States as hunting trophies and these other gruesome products. It's an easy step we can take right now to help protect and restore giraffe populations.

Tell the USFWS to protect giraffes by listing them as Endangered under the Endangered Species Act.
