Urge international leaders to protect mako sharks!
Like all sharks, mako sharks are critical for healthy ocean ecosystems. These predators urgently need international protections to prevent overexploitation as their populations are rapidly plummeting due to demand for their fins and meat.
Country leaders have the opportunity to adopt regulations for the shortfin mako and longfin mako sharks by listing these species on Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). These practical protections will put much-needed controls on the trade in these species before they are fished to extinction.
