Ask the new Environment Minister to protect animals!
Under the European Union Treaty, animals are recognised as sentient beings, whose welfare must be protected. In spite of government giving assurances in November 2017 that animal welfare legislation would be strengthened, not reduced, in the event of the UK leaving the EU, action has not yet been taken
Please urge the new Environment Minister, Theresa Villiers, to prioritise Parliamentary time for legislation to recognise animal sentience, and enact a duty on all parts of government to have regard for animals’ welfare needs when making and implementing laws and policies.
