End the wolf cull in British Columbia!

The British Columbia government has spent over $2 million of taxpayer money inhumanely killing wolves under the guise of attempting to save struggling caribou populations. These cruel methods including aerial gunning and neck snares, often cause long, drawn out deaths.

Wildlife experts have stated that killing wolves will not save caribou; caribou are struggling as a result of habitat loss due to industrial development, which is being authorized by the BC government.

Please urge the BC government to end the wolf cull!

Dear Decision Maker,

I am writing to express my shock and disappointment that taxpayer money is being used to fund the scapegoating and inhumane killing of wolves under the guise of attempting to save struggling caribou populations, while the BC government authorizes the very industrial development that is killing these caribou. The BC wolf cull is scientifically, ethically and economically untenable, and ultimately, it will not save caribou.

Despite claiming to use the best available science, the BC government uses a flawed study (Serroya, et al.) as the scientific basis for implementing a wolf cull to save caribou. A more recent study (Harding, L.E., Bourbonnais, M., Cook, A.T.) debunked this flawed study, and wildlife experts have stated that killing wolves will not save caribou. In fact, the BC government’s own Wolf Management Plan (2014) describes former wolf culls as being ineffective, stating, “Wolf densities were reduced; however, a correlation between reduced wolf densities and caribou recovery could not be substantiated.”

It's clear that wolves are being used as nothing more than a scapegoat, while industry development in critical caribou habitat continues to be authorized.

The wolf cull also neglects the wolf’s important role as an apex predator and hurts our ecosystems through fracturing pack structures and creating ecological imbalance.

Considering BC is a province that prides itself on respect for wildlife and conservation leadership, the wolf cull is a shameful embarrassment to our province’s legacy. I am calling on you to act on science, ethics, and the values of British Columbian taxpayers and end the wolf cull.
